Image for illustrative purposes only

An all to real account of a spectre encountered by a youthful Ulysses Black, while staying as a guest of an equally youthful Lazarus Ravenscroft.

This encounter took place within the strange and labyrinthine warren of bungalows located ‘up Alles es Fees’. Curiously, the place name Alles es Fees means ‘lane of the fairies’.

1 - Introducing Alderney

Starting with the opening chapter from the book Alderney: The Devil’s Rock (2010), author Ulysses Black gives the listener an initial insight into some of the strangeness that surrounds this enigmatic island in the English Channel.

The Devil’s Rock project draws on island folklore and mythology, combining it with a weird history of the island, and modern myths and ghost stories. Sometimes drawing on the lighter side of things, and others embracing the dark and chilling, the stories nevertheless are the result of the life-long investigations into the weird and uncanny on our native island.

Artistic license has generally been taken to distill a narrative or to protect informers identities. What remains astounding is that, typically the more bizarre the claims, the more authentic to our investigations they really are.

Please comment where possible if you have insights or questions, or stories of your own to share relating to our magical island.
